Don and I in a moment of extreme rashness in 1988 bought the woodland known as ‘Great Wood’.
We loved it immediately, and because of this we wanted to share its magic with other people.
Due to its closeness to the historic city of York, its proximity to Castle Howard which is located in the Howardian Hills (an area of outstanding natural beauty) and the North Yorkshire Moors and coast, we believed it would be a fantastic place for people to holiday.
We now have just 4 eco friendly lodges for you to stay in.
It’s a place to relax, unwind, watch and enjoy the wildlife, or sit on the veranda at night time listening to the owls and counting the stars.
There are some amazing places and locations to explore within North Yorkshire and Yorkshire in general all within an hour or less drive from Great Wood.
For those that are more energetic the area is extremely popular with cyclists ‘tour de Yorkshire’ this year (I still cannot master Bulmer bank!) and numerous walks on the North Yorkshire Moors and Coast (short to long distance trails). Golf is available close by.
Coarse fishing is available directly in front of your lodge (pro rate charges apply and you will need a fishing licence). Visitors can bring their own fishing tackle or Don has some you can borrow.
