York

Great Wood lodges have an idyllic woodland setting in the vale of York overlooking a lake about 2 miles from the village of Flaxton. Easy access to great cycling routes, walks, horse riding and golf, or if you prefer to stay put and relax, watch the birds and wildlife from the lodge veranda. For those who want to explore the historic city of York with the famous Minster, city walls and Betty’s tea rooms, is just 12 miles away (there is an excellent park and ride facility at Monks cross shopping centre 10 miles away). In addition to shopping in York within 20 minutes’ drive at Fulford there is the designer outlet, on the northern York ring road you have Monks Cross and Clifton Moor with all the major shops and supermarkets.

There are a variety of local pubs and other places to eat close by. The White Swan pub in Thornton-le-Clay village just over 3 miles away serves good local food and beers. The Stone Trough at Kirkham Abbey, The Black Smith’s Arms at Westow, The Ship Inn at Strensall and The Highwayman at Sheriff Hutton to name a few. The good food guide gastropubs ‘The Star Inn at Harome’ and ’The Pipe & Glass at South Dalton, Beverley’. York additionally has an abundance of places to eat catering for all tastes.
